Beyond Borders: Recruiting and Managing Top Tech Talent in a Hybrid/Remote Workforce

Collene M. Burns is Vice President of Global Talent at ITX Corp., a custom software product development firm with global headquarters right here in Rochester, New York. She and her team of human resources professionals support nearly 300 team members locally, across the United States, and in 16 countries around the world.

A Rochester “boomerang,” Collene returned to her hometown in 2012 after more than a decade in Seattle, WA. While there, she worked for Microsoft Corporation, progressing through various HR-related roles, ultimately becoming a Human Resources Manager from 2008-2012. Upon her return to the Rochester area, Collene continued in her role as a global talent partner and leader, holding positions at Simon Business School, FLPPS (Finger Lakes Performing Provider System), and ITX. Collene also owns and operates a mediation and consulting business, usefully, Inc.

As a passionate community volunteer, Collene serves on the Board of Directors of the Genesee Valley Women’s Foundation and is Past President of the Irondequoit Public Library Board of Trustees.  She is also a member of the current Exploring Racism Groups cohort.

Collene is a graduate of Cornell University and William E. Simon Business School at the University of Rochester. She lives in Irondequoit with her husband, McLean, and their son, Jackson. In addition to community volunteer work, Collene sings with the Eastman Rochester Chorus, can be found well-caffeinated in local coffee shops, and is currently embarking on a learning journey to improve her Spanish-speaking and bassoon-playing skills.
